\ud83e\udde0\u00a0What is it about?
In this work, we propose\u00a0SORIS, a novel\u00a0self-organized reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)\u00a0hardware architecture that enables autonomous channel estimation and configuration without requiring dedicated links to the transmitter or receiver. By combining:
\ud83e\udef4 a microcontroller-enabled RIS architecture,
\ud83e\udef4 low-latency channel estimation using a small subset of transmitting RIS elements, and
\ud83e\udef4 a\u00a0low-complexity machine learning framework\u00a0that exploits spatial channel correlation,
SORIS can efficiently acquire channel state information and dynamically reconfigure itself to assist wireless communications. We also provide a detailed\u00a0complexity, wiring density, and control signaling analysis, and validate the feasibility and performance of the proposed design through Monte Carlo simulations.<\/p>

\ud83c\udf31 This work contributes to the development of\u00a0energy-efficient, scalable, and intelligent RIS-assisted wireless systems, aligning with the vision of green and sustainable communications.<\/p>
